A Concerned Introduction
2 long years of the COVID-19 pandemic and all the restrictions, fears, uncertainties and frustrations it brings has resulted in developing a whole new string of unwanted stress for all in Singapore and around the world. Businesses are undergoing critical restructuring, working individuals are worrying about job insecurity, parents are anxious about the safety of their children, family members are uptight about the elderly, and almost all are concerned about the economy and the healthcare readiness as our COVID-19 cases starts to rocket off the roof.
Our research reveals that mental wellbeing and mental wellness is now a key need for many people with its stigma as a form of “mental illness” diluted with increasing awareness. We see more and more people seeking help to cope with today’s “new” stress, prompting a new platform called the Interagency Taskforce on Mental Health and Wellbeing, chaired by Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary, has been set up this late August to oversee national efforts to promote mental health and well-being beyond the pandemic.
Pandemic’s Impact on Mental Health
A reported article by ChannelNewsAsia dated 23 Aug 2021 indicated that the pandemic has had a “significant impact” on the mental well-being of different segments of the population, according to statistics cited by the COVID-19 Mental Wellness Task Force (CoMWT).
According to a study by the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), about 13% of a surveyed population (May 2020-June2021) reported experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety. Separately, mental well-being was a challenge for more than half of all youths polled by the National Youth Council in the 2nd half of 2020.
In a dramatic turn, IMH’s helpline received 50% more callers in 2020, compared to the same period in 2019. The National CARE Hotline, launched to provide support for mental health concerns related to COVID-19, has handled more than 45,000 calls as of May this year.
Importance of Mental Well-being
Morphing Mind believes that prevention and maintenance is key to a positive mental wellbeing. Through intense research, our neuro-wellness and mindfulness programmes are carefully designed to empower both adults and children, to develop the skills and capabilities to handle stress, and the new demands of a chaotic post COVID-19 endemic life.
Our Mission is to provide every adult and child the basic core essential training facilitation to manage and overcome the stress they face on a daily basis, so that they be fully present, aware of where they are and what they are doing, and not be overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around their surroundings or environment.
It is with this mission in mind that we crafted the idea of creating Singapore’s first ever Mindfulness and You: Awareness Movement and Community. This is to gather everyone who is under some form of stress, anxiety (or depression) related to the “new normal”, so that they are within reach of help, resources, and training, relating to the mental health, mindfulness, and well-being of a person.
The Launch of the Movement
Aiming to form the largest awareness community on mindfulness and mental well-being, we, at Morphing Mind, are excited to announce that we will kick-off the movement with an online “Curtain Raiser” event come December, followed by monthly activities and events that will promote and train mindfulness, and mental wellness throughout 2022.
The December event shall be called “Morphing Mind · Mindfulness and You Festival 2022”.
Our target participation size for this event is 5,000 and target membership at end of 2022 is 50,000.
This week-long event, planned for 17th to 23rd of December 2021, shall have subject matter related talks by invited expert speakers, informative portals on the awareness movement plus membership signups, “experience workshops” on mindfulness and mental wellness related topics, and a befitting “Charity Drive” component where we will reach out to those in need during this pandemic, especially during the Christmas Holiday season which coincide with the “Spirit of Giving” atmosphere. We have identified a few beneficiaries for the charity drive and are currently undergoing arrangements with these charities. Marketing of the Festival will be fundamentally conducted online with possible media coverage.
Your Honourable Participation
We are inviting you to grace this December event with your esteem participation in 3 possible ways:
All participants to this online festival who sign up as a member of the awareness movement and community will be gifted with a “Welcome Goodie Pack”. You and/or your organisation, if you choose to participate, will contribute to this “Goodie Pack” gifting. The contribution may be in the form of “Gifting-in-Kind” where your products or services will be introduced as the denominating base for the gift, e.g. a discount voucher or an invite to experience the service.
We welcome partners who may be with the Food & Beverage industry, or Retail, or with other products or services that not only have a wellness and happiness angle, but will significantly benefit the new members’ lifestyle. Strategic Festival Partners will be prominently identified with the festival in all publicity materials and benefits may include complimentary passes to our mindfulness workshops for your selected personnel or staff, or honorary premium members of the movement.
Help us to spread the word about the festival and movement. It may be to your esteem clientele, or your community of contacts, acquaintances, friends and business associates. Festival Supporters will be prominently identified with the festival in all publicity materials and benefits may include complimentary passes to our mindfulness workshops for your selected personnel or staff.
